What happens if I breakdown or have an accident?

If you breakdown or have an accident, Spectrum Motor Breakdown will arrange for an approved mechanic to attend to your car without delay. If your car cannot be repaired at the roadside, the contractor will take your car to the nearest and most suitable repairer. Depending upon your level of cover, if it is apparent the vehicle cannot be repaired by the end of the working day we will arrange and pay for transportation to your home, original destination or repairer of your choice. Spectrum Motor Breakdown will pay for the cost of the call-out, including towing charges, plus the cost of the first hour's labour at the roadside.

What vehicles are eligible?

Cover is only available for vehicles up to 15 years old. The following vehicles are eligible:

• Cars
• Motorcycles
• Motorised caravans
• Light vans
• Estate cars
• Caravans and trailers of proprietary make covered free of charge
• 4x4 sport utility vehicles

All vehicles must not exceed a gross vehicle weight of 3,500kg, a length of 7m, a height of 3m and a width of 2.25m (including any load carried).

What happens if I need help at home or within one mile from home?

If you have paid the additional premium for Doorstep Cover, we will arrange for an approved recovery specialist to attend your car without delay.

Is there anything that is not covered?

There are some situations that are not covered. These include:

• Vehicles temporarily immobilised by floods or snow where our repairer cannot reach you or vehicles embedded in mud or sand
• Incidents resulting from motor racing, rallies, speed or duration trials
• Incidents resulting from a previous inadequate repair or poor maintenance
• Vehicles being used for hire or reward (taxis can be covered separately).

Levels of Cover:

Roadside Assistance and Local Recovery

Up to 1 hours Roadside Assistance. If the vehicle is not repaired at the roadside Recovery to a local garage within a 20 mile radius of the breakdown. The Breakdown must be more than ? miles away from the policy holders home address

Roadside Assistance, Local Recovery and Doorstep

Up to 1 hours Roadside Assistance. If the vehicle is not repaired at the roadside or at the policy holders address (Doorstep) Recovery to a local garage within a 20 mile radius of the breakdown

Roadside Assistance and National Recovery

Up to 1 hours Roadside Assistance. If the vehicle is not repaired at the roadside Recovery to a garage, your home, onward destination of your choice within the UK (National Recovery) The breakdown must be more than ? miles from the policy holders home address

Roadside Assistance, National Recovery and Doorstep

Up to 1 hours Roadside Assistance. If the vehicle is not repaired at the roadside or at the policy holders address (Doorstep) Recovery to a garage, your home, onward destination of your choice within the UK (National Recovery)

Roadside Assistance, National Recovery and Continental

Up to 1 hours Roadside Assistance. If the vehicle is not repaired at the roadside Recovery to a garage, your home, onward destination of your choice within the UK and Continental Europe. The Breakdown must be more than 1 mile away from the policy holders home address

Roadside Assistance, National Recovery, Doorstep and Continental

Up to 1 hours Roadside Assistance. If the vehicle is not repaired at the roadside or at the policy holders address (Doorstep) Recovery to a garage, your home, onward destination of your choice within the UK and Continental Europe

Temporary European Cover

Temporary European Cover is available for the specified duration, after which cover reverts to the "original" cover level.

You need not think about all the benefits of breakdown insurance. If you are stranded on the hard shoulder in the middle of a remote road, it makes sense.

It is always important to choose a policy that suits your individual needs. Don't forget to consider home start, recovery and roadside insurance packages for cars and bikes. Some packages offer breakdown insurance covering the policyholder whilst travelling as a driver or passenger with any vehicle. Other types of cover will insure the vehicle itself, which means that anyone driving it will be covered, regardless of whether or not they are the ones covered.
